Caliraya Resort: Family Olympics 2012

My grandparents’ wedding anniversary is one of the many important events that our family is always excited about. We have different themes every year. Simple and intimate (which is always the best), formal golden wedding, olympic and sporty, hawaiian party, and pool party.

To celebrate the 56th year of their togetherness, of giving and receiving, of loving and sharing, we thought of having a rematch of last 2007’s olympic getaway which was held in Ecopark. Since Caliraya resort is best known for its recreation and leisure activities, we booked an overnight weekend stay .

“When there’s a wheel, there’s a way”. Taking it literally, this saying was Continue reading

Top 10 Places I want to visit in the Philippines

Mark Twain once said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Keeping this in mind and being the adventurous, free spirit, and nature lover that I am, I decided to make a bucket list of the places I want to visit in the Philippines. I’ve always dreamt of traveling the whole world, but before I do that, I want to explore my homeland first. That way, when I finally started sailing to foreign lands, I can tell the world the wonders of my own country.

Known as Pearl of the Orient Seas, Philippines is a beautiful archipelago with so much to offer — pristine beaches, world-class landforms, magnificent natural wonders, and breathtaking experience with marine life! I’ve been to a lot of wonderful places here like Boracay (which I visit every year), Palawan, Bohol, Bicol, Batangas, La Union, Ilocos, Baguio, name it, haha! But I still have a long list waiting to be checked. My plan is to Continue reading

Underground River: One of World’s New Seven Wonders of Nature

A few months ago, the Underground River in Puerto Princesa Palawan was declared as one of the new seven wonders of nature. Before it was officially announced, there were many advertisements persuading people to vote for it. Definitely, I was one of those proud Filipinos who voted online and through text. I was vigorously, promoting it in Facebook and Twitter when it occurred to me that I, myself, have not yet seen how wonderful Underground River is. I mean, I voted for it because it is in the Philippines, that’s a given. But does it really deserve to be one of the world’s new seven wonders of nature?

And to answer that question, my family and I decided to see with our own eyes the natural wonder that is Underground River and witness why among many other tourist destinations it was nominated. Continue reading

Baguio: Just like 40 years ago…

Of all the wonderful places in the Philippines, Baguio which is also known as the Summer Capital, will always be in the list of summer destinations. Well, who would not want to escape the hot weather in Manila and enjoy ‘little America’ in a matter of six-hour drive?

I have been to Baguio many times. And every time I visit, I enjoy everything the place has to offer. From beautiful tourist spots to chilly climate to delicious food. And of course, the trip would not be complete without a souvenir photo with the famous lion’s head along Kennon Road and the two St. Bernard dogs in Mines View Park! But what really made this trip to the City of Pines special was Continue reading

Donsol: The Most Remarkable Natural Encounter

What comes to your mind when you hear the word whale shark? Hmmm.. Probably ‘dangerous’, ‘scary’ or ‘life threatening creature’. That’s what I thought.

When I was a kid, I love reading the encyclopedia (sad to say, no internet for me that time). Well it’s not that I was really reading, I was just looking at the pictures and my favorite was the letter S encyclopedia which I used to remove from the shelf all the time. I remember I would carry it everywhere and browse the different kinds of sharks—the hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, blue sharks, and great white sharks. I love looking at the pictures and just by looking, I knew that these creatures are extremely dangerous. I never thought, not even slight imagination, that I’d get to have a close encounter with one of them!

Generally, sharks have bad reputation because they attack humans. But it was summer last year when a magical experience changed my view about sharks. Not all of them are Continue reading

the wonderful world of untouched reefs

One of the things I love when I go on a trip is that I get to feel nature.  So when my family and I went to Palawan last December 2011, another adventure thrilled me as I explore the underwater which was referred to as “the mini Tubbataha reef“. As we went from one island to another, one of the boatmen said that Pambato Reef was a newly found tourist spot. It was discovered by a fisherman whose hook got entangled in the reefs.

When the fisherman dived into the water to remove it, he was amazed with what he saw about 20-30 feet below water level. Continue reading

Chocolate Hills: Seem Delicious But Not For Your Sweet Tooth

It was five in the morning. My bag full of food was ready, my extra shirt, pen and paper, and of course a load of excitement! And a few minutes later, my service arrived to pick me up for school. The most awaited day as a grade school kid finally came. The day when learning was not limited to books and classroom, when I got the chance to visit memorable places and hang out with my best buddies in school, and when I was allowed to eat junk food and drink soda. Yes, it was the day of our field trip. With a bunch of other hyperactive kids, I entered the bus and prayed that we arrive safely to our destination —- Nayong Pilipino.

The memories of my childhood came back to me as if they happened just yesterday. When I visited Bohol with my family last September 2010 and saw the famous Chocolate Hills for the first time, the first thing that occurred to me was our field trip at Nayong Pilipino and Continue reading
